Golf Ball “Drops” $1,000 into Winner’s Hands
Some days just don’t get any better. Glenn Bukowski of Okemos, Michigan played golf on a picture-perfect spring day and took home a $1,000 first place raffle prize, at the Second Annual “On the Green for Little Red” Charity Golf Scramble Tournament and Golf Ball Drop, held Monday May 21 at Spring Lake Country Club.
Event organizers were pleased with the results, too. Co-chairs Dave and Mary Eagin of Spring Lake reported that 18 foursomes took to the links for an 18-hole golf scramble, and more than 1,400 golf balls were sold for the golf ball drop afterwards. The day began with lunch followed by a 1:00 p.m. shotgun start for the tournament, and ended with a hearty hors d’oeuvres reception and champagne toast before the numbered golf balls were dropped onto a special green at 6:30 p.m.
A second place prize of $400 was won by Ed Bennick of Grand Haven, and the third place prize of $100 went to Herm Johnson of Grand Rapids. The only prize that went unclaimed was a 2-year lease of a Mercedes 280 SLK Roadster, which Betten Imports of Grand Rapids donated to the first golfer to get a hole-in-one on the course’s 7th hole.
Proceeds from the event are earmarked for special programs at the Little Red House and to provide for their scholarship fund, which helps to provide adult day care services for participants with limited financial resources. Since 2000, The Little Red House has provided compassionate, professional day care services in home-like surroundings to adults with physical, cognitive, and psychosocial limitations. Serving northern Ottawa and Muskegon Counties, it is located at 311 Exchange Street in Spring Lake and is open Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
